Spring Inspections – True to Type Flowering and Stability

sapo-emblem

With an amazing 50-year history in the deciduous fruit industry, we continue to do our best to deliver healthy and clean plant material to the industry. There is now plenty of sunshine, and the nights are getting warmer. Fruit plants are beginning to start to move, with both blossoms and growth buds swelling up and stone fruit coming into flower.

Genetic Inspection

Immediately following the 2024 phytosanitary inspections, the stone fruit flower inspection season got underway with great excitement. Our registered block units comply with Article 13 of the scheme/s, as well as the relevant parts in the standard operating procedures (SOPS) document E of the DPA. During this exciting season of flowers, we are walking through all our foundation and mother blocks around Western Cape. Throughout the foundation plants and up to the mother plants, our inspectors are making sure that every single tree is true to blossom.

Stone fruit like, peaches, apricots, cherries, nectarines, plums, almonds, and prunes produce beautiful flowers from white to pink or red flowers that attract pollinators like honeybees, bumblebees, wasps. and butterflies. Delivering superior quality plant material to the fruit industry is our primary objective at SAPO Trust.

The future of plant improvement is bright, and we’re proud to be part of this journey. Let’s also recognize and nurture the collaborative relationships with the producers that make our Stone Fruit cultivars flourish. By working together, we can achieve incredible things. – thank you Tshotsho Asandiswa
